I have had the pleasure of working with Wendy Stone who I can highly recommend as a professional photographer whose many years of experience are evident in her powerful images. Wendy was commissioned by USAID to photograph our grantees work in the health sector. Her trip was extremely challenging due to severe rains and exhausting travel conditions by road but she managed to capture poignant images in rural communities, health clinics, hospitals, schools and school sponsored sports events. Wendy provided us with edited high res digital images with embedded captions. She has a keen understanding of what her clients are looking for and how to convey their stories in images.

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is an international not-for-profit organization, co-founded by the Rockefeller Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, working to help Africa feed itself through a sustainable green revolution. Our focus is on the African smallholder farmers. Wendy Stone was contracted by AGRA to help with photography and exhibitions that speak to the core of our work and mission. She put up exhibitions and photos and unique African decorations in the office that make the office look authentically African, unique, motivating, with each photo and work of art speaking stories of the challenges, hopes and aspirations of Africa. Wendy's work is so well appreciated by everyone that walks through the AGRA office. I highly recommend Wendy Stone to anyone looking to set up an office with a unique message that inspires!

Wendy Stone is an intrepid, highly competent photographer. She is based in East Africa and delivers the goods on time whether she has to just go around the corner to shoot, or travel for days on unpaved roads to remote areas across the continent. We worked together for almost ten years and I was always impressed with her professionalism and her ability to connect to her subject. She is still my go-to shooter in that area!

In June 2009, Wendy coordinated the preparation of our exhibition on Living with Droughts for pastoral communities in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Somalia as well as organized the opening night of our exhibition. She led a highly professional team to print and mount 50 photographs and over 100 children's drawings, design invitation cards, posters and DVD covers, prepare the exhibition room and contract a catering company. She showed great attention to details, a lot of interest in her work and was able to combine our ideas with her creativity, under tight deadlines.

I have had the pleasure of working with Wendy Stone in a number of different capacities. When I was at the Ford Foundation East Africa office from 1991 to 2003, Wendy took photographs of our projects for our annual reports. She also designed three major photographic exhibitions in our offices for special events. Since 2003, when I started the Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH), Wendy has helped us in a number of ways:  taking pictures at events, taking pictures during sensitive workshops and programs, providing visual essays of the communities where we work, assisting in the design of materials and publications.  Always, I have been struck not only by her excellent eye for the moment that characterizes a great photographer, but also by her ease at joining in any group and making them feel at ease.  Wendy works with her head and her heart, and it shows in the beautiful photographs, publications, and exhibitions she is a part of creating.
